The Climate Change Adaptation and Local Planning Project
The white paper, audio-visual materials, and best management strategies available on this website came out of LIAA's Climate Change Adaptation and Local Planning Project funded by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Coastal Zone Management Program (CZMP). The purpose of this project was to help CZMP re-evaluate and assess options for helping Michigan’s local governments better preserve and protect their coastal wetlands. Findings and recommendations included in the final white paper came out of a robust review of primary and secondary sources, existing state and local plans that incorporate climate change adaptation strategies, an assessment of all known local wetland ordinances in Michigan, a series of expert interviews, and two focused-discussion groups. Thanks to all who contributed to this project.
Financial assistance for this project was provided, in part, by the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Program, Office of the Great Lakes, Department of Environmental Quality, through a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce. These statements, findings, conclusions, and recommendations are those of the LIAA and do not necessarily reflect the views of the DEQ and the NOAA.
