Torch Lake Township Regulation
Township in Antrim County, Michigan (on the shoreline of Lake Michigan)
Population: 1,180
The township is in a very unique location in the northern part of the lower peninsula of Michigan. With Torch Lake, one of the State’s largest inland lakes, on the east side and Lake Michigan on the west side, water plays an integral role in the township’s identity and livelihood. The township does regulate the installation of native plantings and the proximity of structures to coastlines.
Regulation meets the following Key Measures:
1
Prevents the removal and/or requires the installation of native vegetation near dunes and beaches.
The township requires that all construction in a “high risk” erosion zone comply with any regulations adopted under the State of Michigan Shorelands Protection Act (Shorelands Protection and Management of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act PA 451).
Zoning Ordinance Chapter 2, Sections 2.15
4
Limits development/redevelopment along the shoreline.
No structure may be located within 50 feet of the water’s edge of Torch Lake or within 50 feet of the Ordinary High-Water Mark of Lake Michigan.
Zoning Ordinance Chapter 2, Section 2.16
